Born August 27, 1906 in LaCrosse, WI.
Father- George Gein (Alcoholic)
Mother- Augusta Gein (Frantically religious mother who preached against lust & carnal desire. She lived only in her room upstairs and kept her bedroom door locked)
Siblings- Brother Henry G Gein (Firefighter died in 1940)
Ed Gein was born in a small farming community.
He lived a solitary life
His mother taught him that sex was a sin
-Gein was a grave robber who cut off body parts and kept them as trophies.
-Gein was a sadist grave robber who practiced necrophilia and human taxidermy. He had death fetishes and used his victim's skin to make lampshades and sew his couch.
-Accused of 10 murders/charged with 2
-Declared unfit for trial
-Sentenced to life w/out parole
-Lived all his days in a mental institution (during his incarceration he was a model patiant, he never bothered anyone)
-Died July 26, 1984 (age 78) (of cancer or heart attack or respiratory failure) while a patient of the Mendota Mental Health
Institute
-Buried in a family plot in Plainsfield.

-1913 Gein witnessed his parents slaughter a pig, the event caused Gein to ejaculate
-1914- Gein's family moved to a 195 acre farm in Plainsfield because Augistine viewed citylife as a sin (The closest neighbors were about 1-mile away.
-Gein Attended Roche-A-Cri Grade School- The school had a total of 12 students.
- Gein was an excellent reader but was socially shunned/bullied by the other students because he
had a lazy eye and a speech impediment.
-When Gein came home crying from being bullied, his father would beat him until his ears rang.
-1918- Gein's mother caught him masterbating in the bath. She grabbed his genitals and called them the "curse of man."
-1920- Gein became a 8th grade drop-out.
-1937- At age 66, Gein's father died of Pneumonia. His mother told the children that their father
was in Hell.
-April 1, 1940- Gein became the breadwinner of the family. He did odd jobs as a handyman and baby sitter.
-1942- Gein was rejected by the military due to a growth on his eye & impaired vision.
-May 16, 1944- Gein's brother Henry died mysteriously while fighting a fire with Gein.
-1945- Gein became obsessed with reading, head shrinking, grave robbery, and books about the human anatomy.
-Dec 29, 1945- Gein's mother died of a 2nd stroke. Gein immortalized her by boarding up her bedroom & Sitting room. He then turned them into a museum.
-May 1, 1947- Gein begins visiting graves, & robbing them. He even dug up his mother, twisted her head off w/ his hands, and shrunk it; just like he had read in his books.
-1947- Gein visited over 40 cemeteries.
-1951- began digging up the coffins of women he had seen in obituaries. He would practice
necrophilia and canibilistic acts, take parts of
their bodies as souvenirs, masturbate, and recover the graves.
-Aug, 26,1951- Gein dug up Eleanor Adama (age 51)
-Dec 8, 1954 Ed killed Mary Hogan w/ a .22 caliber gun
-Nov. 16, 1957 - Bernice Worden, The mother of Frank Worden, disappears from her shop. Her
gun was out of place, and there was a receipt to Gein for antifreeze. Gein had
shot Worden with a gun from her shop & amo from his own pocket, kidnapped her,
and drove her back to his house.
-Nov. 17, 1957 - Police raid Gein's home they find:
- 1. Bernice Warden hanging like a headless deer in the shed.
- 2. Human skulls on his bed posts
- 3. A box of organs ; including vulvas (his mothers painted silver)
- 4. Furniture made of bones and skin,
- 5. Masks of human skin
- 6. A Belt w/ breasts attached
- 7. A suit of female skin made complete w/ breasts.
- 8. Human skin jewelry
- 9.lips hanging
- 10. The body parts of 15 different women
- Warden's heart in a pan in the oven
- 11. & well preserved faces.
-Nov 19, 1957 - The police searched the farm for a week.
-Nov. 21, 1957 -Gein's polygraph test was released to the press (News)
-Nov. 22, 1957 -Gein was taken to court over the robbery charges. Murder charges were held
until the court could determine his level of sanity
Nov. 23, 1957 - Psychologists/psychiatrists determine Gein was a sexual psychopath who suffered
from schizophrenia
Nov. 24, 1957 - The graves he supposedly robbed were opened. Mrs. Adam's grave was empty.
Nov. 29, 1957 Police found more bones on Gein's property.
Dec. 17, 1957 The hospital reports that Gein is insane & should be permanently committed.
Jan. 6, 1958 - Gein was declared legally sane & remained institutionalized in the Central State
Hospital indefinitely.
March 20, 1958 -Gein's farm & property was scheduled to be auctioned, but all was lost in an
early morning fire.
Jan. 22, 1968 - Gein was taken to court and found to be restored to competency. After ten years
the proceedings to prosecute him began. It took 9 months to pass the preliminary
matters (appointment of counsel, suppressing evidence, and filing briefs)
Nov. 7, 1968 - At age 62, Gein's trial began. It lasted one week.
Nov 14, 1968 - Gein was found guilty of 1st degree murder for the shooting of Bernice
Worden, but not guilty by reason of insanity because he was insain at the
time of the crime. He was returned to Central State Hospital.
Feb. 1974 - Gein petitions the Waushara County Clerk of Courts for release on the grounds that
he was fully recovered.
June 27, 1974 - A judge reviewed Gein's petition & ordered a re-exam, but ultimately rejected the
petition and returned Gein to the Hospital.
1978 - Gein was moved to the Mendota Mental Institute in Madison.
July 26, 1984 - At age 78, Gein died. He was senile, had cancer and died of respitory failure in the Geriatric ward of the Mendota Mental Institute
July 27, 1984 - Gein was laid to rest in a family plot, beside his mother in the Plainfield cemetery
